The Aikman Club entered its first competition as a club recently, fielding a composite crew with Old Boys rowing from Melbourne Rowing Club. The Carrum Masters' Regatta held the National Water Sports Centre on the 6th April and attracted clubs from all over the state and provided a home ground debut for the club. Masters' racing is based on an age handicap system and with our crew being "young masters" an 11 second handicap was placed on the crew.
The crew, coxed by Ben Rose (2000), and stroked by Myles Kendall (’99), included Clay Douglas (’99), Michael Chapman, Ben Newby (2000), Brendan Shaw (’99), Byron Wilding (’92), Alasdair Aikman (’91) and Nat Callea (’92). The crew rowed very well, placing a close fourth against experienced veteran crews from Melbourne Rowing Club, Yarra Yarra and Corio. With the crew's form and fitness improving all the time, the crew is looking forward to its next regatta - the Albert Park Masters on the 4th May.
