OHA Boutique Industry Experience - Darren Scammell ('82)

You are cordially invited to attend an intimate luncheon with industry expert Darren Scammell ('82).

Darren Scammell joined Grant Thornton as an audit partner in July 2018, where he supports the general, health and life insurance, superannuation, banking and wealth management clients to grow in what is an increasingly complex operating environment. Expectations from customers, shareholders and regulators are higher than ever, and all eyes are currently fixed on the financial services sector. This presents an opportunity for our clients to demonstrate their value – both in terms of commerciality and social licence to operate.

Darren has a wealth of experience with more than 32 years’ in technical accounting, risk and compliance assessments and integrated reporting across Australia and the UK. Darren has been the trusted audit partner for organisations including BUPA’s Australian and New Zealand operations, ANZ, ANZ Superannuation, NAB, Japara, La Trobe Financial Services, GMHBA, LendLease Primelife, The Salvation Army and the Victorian insurance agencies, TAC and WorkSafe.

The key to Darren's approach on all of his client work is to balance the needs of clients, regulators and the board, while remaining independent and commercial. Measured and responsive to market forces and digital disruption, he believes there is significant opportunity for the financial services sector to embrace and lead the adoption of new technologies to provide the highest standard of service to customers.

In addition to his leadership and client facing roles, Darren is also an active advocate for quality in the industry. He is a Past President (2016) and current Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and currently a Council Member, and the Chair of Finance and Risk for Haileybury.
