Martin Algie (OH' 80)
Martin Algie (OH '80) attended Haileybury between 1975 and 1980, studying at the Keysborough Campus. Martin will this year be inducted, alongside his fellow 'Class of 1980' into the 40-Years-On Club with a ceremony to occur at the Founders Day Assembly.
After graduating from law and economics with honours, Martin became a lawyer, doing Articles at the prestigious Collins Street firm, Freehill Hollingdale & Page. He was admitted to the Supreme Court as a Barrister and Solicitor in April 1992. After spending five year stints at each of Freehills, Minter Ellison and Baker & McKenzie, he established his own firm and has now been running that for nine years.
MIA Contract Lawyers is a Carlton-based boutique commercial law firm, focussing on corporate transactions (particularly product distribution) through expert negotiation and contract drafting. The firm specialises in pharmaceuticals, retail, construction, to name a few industries.
In a presentation ceremony in Westminster London, Martin received the International Client Choice Award in Projects and Procurement. This was the first time that a lawyer from a small practice had received this award.
Established in 2005, Client Choice recognises those law firm partners around the world that stand apart for excellence in the quality of their service. The criteria for this recognition focuses on an ability to add real value to clients' business above and beyond the other players in the market. The award was nominated by corporate counsel, and assessed through a rigorous research panel. Last year, winners were adjudged the most outstanding from over 2,500 nominations.
We are so proud of Martin and his achievements and look forward to celebrating with him and the Class of 1980.
