OHA Wellbeing: From Awareness to Action: Cultivating Compassion for Mental Health
May 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Free
Old Haileyburian and Organisational Psychologist Hayden Fricke (OH 1984) returns to share insights from his powerful second book, Compassion – a journey through love, loss and understanding of mental illness. In this deeply personal memoir, Hayden reflects on the lives of four men closest to him — his brother Quentin, who lived with schizophrenia; his father, a respected lawyer and Judge who battled bipolar disorder and alcoholism; his brother Craig, who lives with intellectual disability, anxiety and depression; and his brother-in-law Glenn, who tragically died by suicide. Their stories are honest, confronting and profoundly human.
Drawing on both lived experience and four decades of professional practice, Hayden explores how society’s understanding of mental illness has evolved — and where it still must grow. At the heart of his message is a simple but urgent call: to move beyond our curated “Instagram selves” and learn how to have real conversations that matter.
This session will challenge, move and equip alumni to lead with greater compassion in their families, workplaces and communities.
