Stuart Box (OH ’83) spent 4 years in Melbourne University’s Engineering Faculty studying Applied Chemistry, and soon after married his course mate Justine.
Stu worked for General Electric for 18 years in both manufacturing and financial services including an expat stint in Singapore before moving to Orica in a series of global corporate roles for a further 7 years.
At the grand age of 46, having spent way too much time in aeroplanes and on foreign shores for over 25 years, Stu’s career changed to stay at home dad to his 2 high school aged children. He supported them through high school in the role of chief cheer squad and sausage twirler at school events as well as University. Now properly retired, Stu and Justine relax in regional Victoria in between holidays both locally and overseas.
Stu has had “a fortunate life” and enjoys engaging with the OHA through the OHA Hockey Club and reunions. We can’t wait to see you, Stu, at your Class of 1983 40-Year Reunion at The Deck in Brighton on February 3!

IN LOVING MEMORY - Professor Emeritus Allan Stewart-Oaten (OH ‘56) sadly passed away peacefully in his Santa Barbara home in the embrace of his loving wife Linda and family on October 15.
Allan’s brother Ken Oaten (OH ’58) spent three weeks with Allan, Linda and their family in the period leading up to his death and they chatted very warmly about their early days together - which included their time together at Haileybury.
After Haileybury, Allan graduated BA (Hons) at Melbourne University in 1961 and PhD (Mathematic Statistics) at Michigan State University in 1969 to the immeasurable pride of his parents, Charlie and Iris Oaten. Allan was always a free thinker and exploited his Haileybury learnings to the limit in his own effective way over his 38 years of creating real value with UCSB as Chancellor Yang.
Our sincere thoughts are with Allan’s entire family during this difficult time.

The OHA congratulates the Class of 2022 on their record-breaking VCE results! Haileybury students have produced the best VCE results in the 30-year history of the VCE. A total of 7 students achieved the highest possible ATAR of 99.95 placing them in the top 0.05% of students in Australia. Congratulations to Yan He Chen, Abigail Gardiner, Chloe Lay, Jiaqi Lu, Michael Sun, Kerry Zhu, Kim Zhu. This is an incredible achievement given that only a little over 30 students will be awarded an ATAR of 99.95 out of the 50,000 VCE students who sat the VCE in 2022.
A remarkable 60% of Haileybury students achieved an ATAR of 90 or above placing them in the top 10% in Australia. This is well up on the previous Haileybury record of 55%. Haileybury is an open-entry school and the achievement of 97% of all students in the top 40% in Australia is an excellent reflection of our commitment to every student. Please read more at https://www.haileybury.com.au/news/class-of-2022-vce-results
Well done to the Class of 2022. The OHA is always here for you and to assist with your future career direction. Stay Connected!

On the 10th of December, Nathan Hunter (OH 2013) will complete a 100km Ultra Marathon to raise money for the Healing Foundation.
The Healing Foundation is a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation that partners with communities to address the ongoing trauma caused by actions like the forced removal of Indigenous children from their families. Money raised will directly fund projects that contribute to the Collective Healing of Stolen Generations and their descendants. These projects are community defined and led, and often provide the opportunity to contribute to truth telling and learning for non-Indigenous people.
He will begin this Ultra early in the morning in Frankston and follow a coastal route to Luna Park in St Kilda, and then head back the same way to Frankston once more before finishing at Luna Park at 7 pm (route subject to change).
Nathan is doing this event because he feels “it is important that we all accept the scars colonisation has left on First Nations people and this Sacred land. He feels that we all need to become a part of the healing process, to come together and heal as one mob of Australians.”

Thanks for your support!

It was a celebration of amazing achievements in Darwin last week as the graduates from the Class of 2022 from Haileybury Rendall School came together to celebrate the end of their journey with class mates and teachers. Haileybury’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations, Russell Davidson had the opportunity to attend the event and formally welcomed all 35 graduates into the Old Haileyburians Association as life members. We look forward to engaging with the HRS Class of 2022 for many years to come. Once a Haileyburian, always a Haileyburian.

In August 2014, Courtney Wilkins (OH 2014) was nearing the completion of Year 12 when she was offered a position at the University of Buffalo to both study and play basketball. Fast forward a few months… she was on a plane!
Courtney studied a Communications degree and minored in nutrition over 5 years. Her first year was difficult - not only having to adapt to a completely different climate from Melbourne but she also became sick and injured. Courtney sadly did not play any basketball that year, however on a positive note, she was eligible to extend her time at college for an additional year.
After graduating from college, Courtney happily returned to Melbourne. She has remained in the sports industry having worked at SHAWL Sports for a number of years, and more recently made the switch to New Balance Head Office in a role in the Operations department. Courtney has returned to the Frankston Blues to play basketball where she grew up playing all her juniors and currently plays in the NBL1 league.
Courtney’s favourite memory of her overseas adventure would definitely be winning the Mid American Conference Title (MAC) in 2019 and making it to the Sweet 16 the season prior. She would recommend to anyone who has the opportunity to go to College to take it! There were many people who played a huge part in making her journey at college become possible and the friendships formed will remain with her forever.
Congratulations Courtney for making the most of every opportunity that has come your way!

The OHA is indebted to the volunteers and participants of our affiliate Clubs. Recently members of many of our clubs participated in a fantastic social event put together by OHA Bowls. The event enabled many of our club members to integrate with members from other clubs in a relaxed and social atmosphere and showcased the size and breadth of the OHA Clubs network. Thanks to all those who make our Clubs tick.
