In Loving Memory – Ian Cox (OH ’47)

Ian’s contribution to Haileybury was lifelong and unstinting.  He was School Captain and Senior Cadet Lieutenant in 1947.  Following his school days, and while conducting a busy city legal practice, he provided magnificent service to the School in a variety of roles. He acted as Minute Secretary for Council from 1953, was a member of Council from 1961-2001, and served as Chairman from 1989-1997.  He also acted as Honorary Solicitor for thirty-two years.

Ian was a very active member of the Old Haileyburians Association and was elected a Life Member in 1979. He served as Treasurer of the OHA 1952-68 and President from 1970-72. Ian was a committed, dedicated and enthusiastic supporter of our Association.

He worked in a voluntary capacity as an officer of cadets for twenty-seven years. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and was Commanding Officer from 1973-1974 of a unit which at that time was regarded as one of the strongest in Australia.

We express our most sincere condolences to his wife Gwynneth who provided wonderful support throughout his Haileybury involvement, and to his children Gen and William (’85) and family.

A funeral service to honour Ian’s life will be held at St George’s Anglican Church, 201 Arthurs Seat Rd, Red Hill on MONDAY (Feb. 6, 2017) at 11.00am.
