Hearts are Premiers in 2018!

On a cold and wintry Sunday at Sandringham’s Trevor Barker Oval, the Hearts came up against a formidable opposition in the Old Scotch Stars – a joint venture between Scotch College and MLC Kew.

The Hearts had not defeated Scotch in their two meetings this year. Scotch finished the season in second place on the ladder and had moved straight into the Grand Final following a second semi final win against Beaumaris. The Hearts conversely had done it the hard way. Having to win their final match of the season against Old Mentonians to even make the finals, they then had to overcome Old Brighton and Beaumaris in the 2nd semi and Preliminary Finals to earn their chance at the big prize.

And earn it they did! A four goal to one first quarter put the stamp on the game. Despite not kicking a goal for the remainder of the match, the Hearts were able to defend grimly and allow their opponents only one more goal for the match to claim the Premiership by 13 points.

This is Old Haileybury FC’s 3rd Premiership in four years – an amazing feat for this famous club.

Congratulations to Coach Danny Frawley and co-captains, Jordan Shanks (OH 2010) and Chelsea Frawley (OH 2010) on this amazing achievement.
