Iain Warry (OH 2004)
Iain Warry (OH 2004) is a dedicated Major in the Australian Army with 18 years of service under his belt. He started his journey by attending the Australian Defence Force Academy, followed by the Royal Military College – Duntroon in Canberra, where he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in 2009, specialising in military logistics. Over the years, Iain has been posted across various locations in Australia and abroad, including Townsville, Brisbane, Puckapunyal, and San Diego, California.
He has faced challenges and seized opportunities that have shaped him into the leader he is today. One of his most memorable deployments was in 2014 when he served in the Middle East alongside two Old Haileyburians on the same staff. Another career highlight was during his overseas posting with the United States Marine Corps, where he served as the Logistics Planner for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
In 2022-2023, Iain was privileged to lead soldiers as Officer Commanding of the Administration Company (Logistics) in the Second Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment in 2023. In this role, he worked with highly skilled and trained soldiers operating within the amphibious domain, a unique and demanding environment.
Despite his many accomplishments, Iain feels there is much more to learn and intends to serve for many years. That’s why he is now pursuing a Master of Military and Defence Studies at the Australian War College in Canberra, where he finds each day rewarding and challenging. This year, Iain will commemorate ANZAC Day at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra with his family by his side. He hopes to instil the importance of honouring the sacrifices made by past and present servicemen and women in his children.
Thank you, Iain, for your outstanding service to our country!
