Haileyburians take next step to AFL

We congratulate these three fine men who this week commence their AFL journeys;

Jack Scrimshaw (2016) – selected at pick no.7 to the Gold Coast Suns.

Jack played his underage TAC season with Sandringham Dragons and understands the flow of the game and makes excellent decisions under pressure. He has great awareness and brings a no-fuss attitude to his football. If he continues to match consistency with his high level of performance, he could be a genuine star.

Josh Battle (Year 11 2016) – selected at pick no.39 to St.Kilda.

Regarded as one of the best key forwards in this year’s draft pool, Josh kicked the most goals of any division one player at the under-18 national championships, finishing with 11 majors in four games for Vic Country. The 192cm spearhead was also prolific in front of goal at TAC Cup level, booting 24.13 across eight games. He was a standout performer in his positional group at the Draft Combine in October, demonstrating his elite endurance by running a 10:07 3km time-trial and reaching 13.7 in the Beep Test. He also won the 3km test at the AFL Academy camp in January.

Due to his size and athleticism, Josh has been likened to Hawthorn star and fellow Haileyburian, Jack Gunston. He finished the TAC Cup season with an impressive conversion rate of 69 per cent in front of goal.

Cameron Polson (2016) – selected at pick no.59 to Carlton.

Cameron only played four games with the Sandringham Dragons, before a shoulder injury unfortunately cut his season short. In those matches for the Dragons he mostly played on the wing, highlighting his versatility across the ground.
