OHA Athletics Club Season Launches

On Saturday 8th April, a group of Old Haileyburian athletes participated in the first APSOC event for the 2017 season.  APSOC welcomes old boys and old girls from APS Schools to participate in cross country runs throughout the season which concludes in September.

The OHA is delighted that we have over 20 athletes who represent our School. Saturday’s event was held at Scotch College and we are delighted with the results. Mercurial leader Sean Guiney (OH 2012) was first to cross the line, storming home to finish 3rd overall after matching it with some of Australia’s top distance runners. The podiums continued with the retrospective handicap, as Scott Peacock (OH ’93) claimed 3rd place; Tom McFarlane (OH 2011), and brothers Ned Verwey (OH 2011) and Sean Verwey (OH 2006) finished well into the top 30 to secure a successful start to the season.

Even though the season has officially started, it’s not too late to register for APSOC, and there is no age limit or fitness criteria to become part of the OHA Athletics Club, everyone is welcome.

Spectators are also welcome to come along to encourage our athletes and to enjoy post-run refreshments.
