Alumni honoured with naming of City Houses

The Houses will be referred to as Elliot (green), Main (red), Na (yellow) and Newton (blue).

Elliot house is named after Adam Elliot (OH ’89). Adam is one of the world’s leading independent filmmakers and “clay” animators. He eclipsed three of Hollywood’s giants – Disney, Pixar and Fox studios, to win his Oscar for Harvey Krumpet in 2004. Dedicated to his art form, Adam spent years animating blobs of plasticine in a rundown storage unit in searing summer heat. In 1999, Adam was the Young Achiever of the Year in Victoria and is now an official voting member for the annual Academy Awards. Main house will forever be named after Fraser Main (OH ’88). Fraser was Captain of Cricket in 1988 and also a member of the First XV111, Athletics and Pipes and Drums teams. After leaving School, he played district (Premier) cricket with both Melbourne and University; playing in a First X1 premiership for University in 1995/96 and amateur football with the OHAFC, playing in senior Premierships in 1989 and 1990. Fraser is a qualified Quantity Surveyor and is the Group Managing Director of the Trevor Main Property Group who specialise in Quantity Surveying, Project Management, Facilities Management and Real Estate.

Na house has been named after Victoria Na (OH 2008). Victoria took up the sport of badminton as a nine year old and won her first national junior title in 2005 in the under 15 singles. She went on to win the Australasian U/17 singles title in 2007 and the Australasian U/19 singles title in 2009. Victoria was selected for the 2012 London Olympic Games making her the first ever female Old Haileyburian to represent Australia at the Olympics. At these Games she also became the first female to ever win a badminton match for Australia.

Newton house has been named after Sir Alan Newton and his brother Sir Wilberforce (Bill) Newton who attended Haileybury in the early 20th Century. Sir Bill Newton was School Captain and Dux of the College in 1907. Both brothers were distinguished academics who completed medical degrees at University and served in the Medical Corps during World War 1. Sir Bill was knighted for his work in the community and Sir Alan for his work as a surgeon.
